Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling made the following major announcement via Facebook about an upcoming “Harry Potter” spinoff movie:
Warner Bros. announced on 12th September 2013 that J.K. Rowling would be making her screenwriting debut with ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’, the first in a new film series which is part of their expanded creative partnership with J.K. Rowling. The films will be inspired by Harry Potter’s Hogwarts textbook of the same name, and will feature the book’s fictitious author, Newt Scamander.
“It all started when Warner Bros. came to me with the suggestion of turning ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ into a film. I thought it was a fun idea, but the idea of seeing Newt Scamander, the supposed author of ‘Fantastic Beasts’, realized by another writer was difficult. Having lived for so long in my fictional universe, I feel very protective of it and I already knew a lot about Newt. As hard-core Harry Potter fans will know, I liked him so much that I even married his grandson, Rolf, to one of my favourite characters from the Harry Potter series, Luna Lovegood.
As I considered Warners’ proposal, an idea took shape that I couldn’t dislodge. That is how I ended up pitching my own idea for a film to Warner Bros.
Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for seventeen years, ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world. The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry’s gets underway.
I particularly want to thank Kevin Tsujihara of Warner Bros. for his support in this project, which would not have happened without him. I always said that I would only revisit the wizarding world if I had an idea that I was really excited about and this is it.”
Vin Diesel is batting-a-thousand this year at the box office.
Thanks to a strong opening weekend for ‘Riddick,’ the actor has earned his third #1 weekend of 2013. ‘Fast and Furious 6′ was #1 for two weekends in a row earlier this summer.
‘Riddick’ brought in $18.6 million… not bad considering the fact that kids went back to school and the film had to compete with the beginning of the NFL regular season. It played in 3,107 theaters, according to MTV.
Vin Diesel and Fast and Furious fans alike are eagerly awaiting the release of “Fast and Furious 7,” which hits theaters in 2014.
If you have time, check out ‘Riddick’ during the week… I know I will.
Riddick, the third film in the Riddick action series, hit theaters in the UK and Ireland Wednesday and the United States on Friday.
The dark film, staring Vin Diesel, focuses on Riddick’s survival against alien predators after being abandoned on a deserted planet by Necromongers. Throughout the film, Riddick shows no mercy against all who challenge him while seeking revenge before returning to his home planet.
Riddick was written and directed by David Twohy.
Fans of both Vin Diesel and science-fiction will surely appreciate adding this film to their weekend plans. Check out the trailer below.
Star actor and director Ben Affleck will be the new Batman. Warner Bros. made the major announcement Thursday. Some people are happy with the news and some are not.
The Man of Steel sequel, which has yet to be titled, will also feature Henry Cavill as Superman. Zack Snyder will be directing the film, which marks the first time Batman and Superman are together in a major movie.
“Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him,” Snyder said in a press release.
The Man of Steel sequel’s script is being worked on as we speak and shooting is expected to begin sometime next year according to Entertainment Weekly.
I’ve seen multiple reviews about the new movie We’re TheMillers and they flat out told readers NOT to see the movie. I’m happy to suggest the complete opposite to you- go see it!
First of all, the movie is hilarious! I saw it Thursday night with my father while in a bummed-out mood and I can confidently say that it made my day. I, and everyone else in the theater, laughed repeatedly through every one of the 110 minutes.
I was very impressed with the actors and actresses and their ability to keep straight faces at nearly every moment in which I could not. The four stars (Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis, Will Poulter and Emma Roberts) were obviously the best examples to point out.
Here is the summary of the movie, provided by IMDb:
A veteran pot dealer creates a fake family as part of his plan to move a huge shipment of weed into the U.S. from Mexico.
That is all you need to know. Go watch it because I promise you that you won’t be able to hold your laughter in during it.
Producers of SyFy’s popular Sharknado movie asked Fans to decide via Twitter the name of the sequel title. After over 5,000 submissions, SyFy has finally announced the title:
Sharknado 2: The Second One
What do you think?
“Since Twitter played such a huge role in the success of the original movie, we wanted to use that platform to ask our fans to name Sharknado 2,” Thomas Vitale, executive VP of SyFy programming said in a statement. “This response is another reminder of how Sharknado has become a pop culture phenomenon. We want to thank all our viewers for their wonderful contributions to keeping up the shark-mentum.”
We’ve been told that the shark-filled tornado will be hitting New York this time around.
