Mark Rinehart, a man from Georgia, was denied additional paid leave to be with his dying wife this past week, when she died a complicated death.
Hannah Rinehart battled cancer for years, which left her immune system in poor condition. As a result, she contracted a rare infection from her dog’s saliva,
which lead to her being hospitalized, and put into an induced coma.
Hannah’s hands and feet were amputated in an attempt to save her body, but on Thursday night she experienced multiple organ failure and died.
Mark Rinehart, a member of Georgia’s National Guard, was not given additional paid days off, despite the fact that the news had become widespread and coworkers offered their paid days up to him.
Rinehart will return to work, and continue on as normal as possible, despite the death of his wife.
