Mercedes-Benz Discontinues Its Ultra-luxury Maybach Brand
One of the most luxurious car brands on the planet is being discontinued.

The word “Discontinued” was placed next to the five bottommost items on a price sheet issued recently by Mercedes-Benz USA for its 2013 vehicles. The list was dominated by Maybach.

The last of the Maybach brand would be the five Maybach models offered for 2012: the 57, 57S, 62 and 62S, and the $1.38 million Landaulet.

Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, confirmed late in 2011 that its decade-long project with the Maybach had reached its necessary end, costing the company $1 billion, as sales were stuck around 200 units annually rather than the 1,000-unit goal initially made by the German company.

Where did all of the super-rich car buyers go? If I could afford one of these amazing machines I'd get one in a heartbeat!

Final prices for the series-production cars ranged from $379,050 for the 57 to $470,350 for the 62S. The pricier Landaulet was available by special order.

Daimler has focused its ultra-luxury goals on the next generation of the S-Class, the flagship sedan from Mercedes-Benz. An extended-wheelbase version of the S600, powered by the impressive Mercedes V-12 engine that was found in the Maybachs, is expected to have the Pullman name.

This news saddens me. Maybachs are stunning cars with luxury features difficult to find anywhere else. They are considered a luxury brand of a luxury brand- Mercedes. With that in mind, they've got to be superior.

If I suddenly possess enough money, maybe I'll grab one.

We'll miss you Maybach!
