Three Women Make History, Claim the First Women's Olympic Boxing Titles
Three young women made history this week, and proved many people wrong in the process.

Ireland's Katie Taylor, America's Claressa Shields and Britain's boxer Nicola Adams claimed the first women's Olympic boxing titles for an exciting tournament that shocked many.

The Olympic culture has rejected women's boxing for years, but this year's women's competitions proved the sport's value to the movement as a whole.

Taylor, a four-time world champion who lead the campaign to get women to the Olympics, expressed her feelings.

"Hopefully I am a great role model. I have tried my best to be a great model for girls watching on TV and aspiring to be an Olympic champion and a medalist. This is what they have to look forward to."

The women were allowed just thirty-six competitors compared to the men's 250, but their four sessions were among the most competitive.

Olympic boxing's governing body will encourage the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to increase its quota of female competitors for the 2016 Games.

"The boxers are all heroes, they have a very important role in the history of AIBA (International Boxing Association)," said Wu Ching-kuo, the head of world amateur boxing.

I'm happy for the success of these three athletes, and I predict female Olympic Boxing to continue growing in popularity.
