A little entertainment can turn a long, boring flight into a tolerable one. Most of the time though, that just means a watching a movie, listening to some music, or even a few cocktails... but one Vietnamese airline decided to try something a little more exciting.
Vietnamese officials have fined VietJetAir for having beauty contestants in bikini tops and skirts dance down the aisle of a plane without authorization.
The airline was fined $956 for the Hawaiian-themed dance on its first flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang.
On August 3rd, passengers filmed the five women on their cellphones.
Officials say VietJetAir had "violated local aviation regulations". The decision to fine the airline was reached after officials met on Wednesday.
A statement on the company's website says that it wanted to capture a "holiday atmosphere" for its new flight route to Nha Trang, one of the country's most popular holiday destinations. "Once passengers stepped on board they were met by flight attendants dressed in beach holiday attire [who] performed a sexy Hawaii dance."
Nguyen Trong Thang, chief inspector of the country's civil aviation body, said that the airline "had violated the local aviation regulations by organizing an unapproved show on a plane."
You have to give them credit though. This is definitely thinking outside the box. I think everyone really needs to lighten up. No harm, no foul.
