James Holmes Charged With 24 Counts of Murder, 116 Counts Attempted Murder
James Holmes made his second appearance in a Colorado court room today to hear the charges he will be facing. As opposed to his first appearance, media cameras were blocked by a judge.
He has been charged with 24 counts of murder and 116 counts of attempted murder.
Twelve of his murder counts are for first-degree murder, and the other 12 are for “murder with extreme indifference.”
For the attempted murder charges, 58 counts were of attempted premeditated murder, and 58 counts of murder with "universal malice."
He will also be charged with one count of possession of explosives for his booby-trapped apartment.
Holmes has been accused of opening fire on a crowd at a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado on July 20th, which left 12 dead and 58 injured.
Prosecutors have not yet decided if they will seek the death penalty- an option in the State of Colorado. His next court date is August 9th.
