People Who Brag Do it Because it Feels Better Than Sex
For me, being humble is something I find really important. There is nothing more unattractive than someone with money who talks about money, someone who feels the need to talk about how expensive their purse is, or someone who CONSTANTLY has to one-up you (see "Penelope" video below - it's a must watch). No matter how much success I have, how great I did at my job, or how much money I spent on my shoes - I prefer keeping quiet. I do not need self verification on Twitter or Facebook, and I find that bragging is an abhorrent quality in others.

But now I have a whole new perspective on why people need to yap, yap, yap about how great they are, and the reason is that the sensation from bragging is similar to what you feel during sex.

During a scientific study at Harvard University, scientists have discovered the reason behind bragging is that talking about yourself provides the exact same sensation as great food, money and sex. Who knew?!

According to Gizmodo...The research, which was carried out at Harvard University and is published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, used brain scans to identify which parts of the brain are associated with talking about ourselves.

To do that, they asked offered participants money if they chose to answer questions about other people, such as President Obama, rather than about themselves. The questions ranged from the banal—say, whether they liked mushrooms on a pizza—to the personal, relating to qualities such as intelligence, curiosity or aggression."

"Self-disclosure is a behavior that we do all of the time, day in and day out: When you talk to people, they'll often talk about themselves. On Twitter and Facebook, people are primarily posting about what they're thinking and feeling in the moment. This is one piece of evidence about why we may do that."

I still think bragging is obnoxious, but at least now I know why people get such joy out of it. Hey, you learn something new every day.
